As the summer heat intensifies, so does the planning for the 2015 Candler Park Fall Fest which takes place on Oct. 3 and 4. (www.fallfest.candlerpark.org). With a team of passionate committee members and volunteers focused on making this year’s festival one you won’t want to miss, here’s an update on where we are right now, and how you can still get involved.
In the Kids Zone: For only $5 for the entire day, children can jump to their heart’s content on a variety of jump activities, with all proceeds going to the Mary Lin Educational Foundation. Point 3 will be doing a basketball showcase which includes events and entertainment, possibly featuring the Atlanta Hawks. Kids can also participate in a variety of science experiments led by the Atlanta Children’s Museum’s Professor Labcoat. More exciting activities and events are being finalized as well.
In the Artists Market: Space is filling up quickly with vibrant, local vendors showcasing their talents and art, so if you haven’t reserved your space yet, you’ll want to get in touch with Rachel Bowser at artistmarket@candlerpark.org ASAP or apply via the Fall Fest website. You’ll also want to start planning your holiday shopping list to pick up one-of-a-kind gifts sure to impress. Visit the website to start planning ahead and see the fantastic vendors already lined up for this year!
Music, Music, Music: This year we want to get everyone dancing, so we’ve lined up some great bands to make sure you do just that. Saturday features Gringo Star (local Atlanta Indie darlings), Smithsonian (extremely popular Smiths tribute band), Clashinista (a fantastic Clash tribute band you won’t want to miss) and classic soul, retro rock/pop, and today’s chart-toppers Bogey and the Viceroy (former members of Kingsize). Sunday features ragtime and New Orleans style jazz band Blair Crimmins & The Hookers. Other bands throughout the weekend include: JugTime RagBand, Webster, Guru Fish, Squirrel Heads, and 4th Ward A.K.O. More bands are being added as well and the final schedule will be on the website soon!
Food, Food, Food: The Food truck park, which may need to be expanded from last year’s thanks to Ryan Boblett’s hard work, will be packed including Gotta Have It, King of Pops, Mixd Up, Nana G’s Chicken & Waffles, Tex’s Tacos, Queen of Cream, Sweet Auburn BBQ, Palookaville and many more. Keep checking the website as more vendors are being added every day!
The 5K Run Gets a Little Brother: This year the annual 5K Run will start and end on Clifton Terrace near the back entrance of Candler Park. Sponsored by Piedmont Healthcare, participants have the added bonus of receiving some cool perks at the finish line. If the 5K sounds a little too daunting, this year we’re adding a 1 Mile Fun Run. Be sure to register your team, or register as an individual, early so you can take advantage of the advance registration discount!
Sponsorships Make It Possible: Sponsorships are doing well and already have surpassed most of previous years’s total thanks to Drew Jackson. There are still some opportunities available, so if you have a business, or know of one, that would like to be recognized in a variety of ways before, during and after the event, contact Drew at ffsponsors@candlerpark.org.
The Tour of Homes: The Candler Park Tour of Homes is always a big draw to locals and visitors alike. Lexa King (chair of the Tour of Homes) has a brief in this issue of the Messenger as well so make sure to read it to see all the details and learn how you can help be part of it!
The annual Fall Fest is such an important event to the community of Candler Park as all proceeds from it go directly back into the neighborhood. If you live here, you know what a difference that makes. As we celebrate our 15th year, please help us to make sure it is the best event possible. If you can volunteer some time please do. We’ll have a list of options available soon. If you can’t, please help us spread the word to your family, friends, neighbors and associates. Together, we can really make this an event to remember!
