- We conduct meetings in accordance with Robert’s Rules and CPNO Bylaws. Here is a simple 5-page Robert’s Cheat Sheet and here are CPNO Bylaws.
- To vote, you must be a member by the first of the month.
- As soon as you arrive, check in at the table near the entrance. You must check in to vote!
- We rely on the following procedures to keep meetings civil and efficient, and to allow all neighbors a fair opportunity to participate:
- Adding an item to the agenda
- An agenda is prepared in advance. It is distributed via e-mail and posted on the Candler Park website 5 days before the meeting and is available at the meeting.
- If you’d like to see an issue addressed, please send a request to president@candlerpark.org at least 6 days before the meeting so that it can be included in the agenda that, per our bylaws, goes out 5 days before the meeting.
- Additional items may be added, but require a motion and vote to amend the agenda before the vote to approve the agenda, which takes place at the start of the meeting.
- Speaking during a meeting
- Raise your hand to be recognized by the chair. Wait until you are recognized before asking a question or making any statements.
- Please rise when recognized and introduce yourself with your name and street (e.g. “Hi, I’m Big Bird, Sesame Street”). Remain at your seat unless you are a presenter or the chair asks you speak from the front of the room.
- To ensure that participants have an equal voice, neighbors may only speak for two minutes unless a different amount of time was explicitly allotted.
- With the sole exception of raising a specific Point of Order, please never interrupt a speaker.
- CPNO Bylaws prohibit personal attacks. Robert’s Rules bars off-topic comments.
- Making a motion during a meeting
- Help us keep an accurate record of the wording of any motion or amendment that you propose by writing its exact wording, signing it, and reading it aloud before the vote.
- If your motion or amendment passes, do not alter the wording in any fashion after the vote. Submit the motion or amendment, exactly as you read it, to the Recording Secretary.
- Certain motions (see our bylaws) require advance notice. Our bylaws also state that previous notice is encouraged,
but not required, for all other motions known in advance.
