Update, 11/17/22:
Based on feedback from meetings, the Historic Designation Committee will present the following at the November 21, CPNO Meeting:
Motion to support moving forward with engaging the Candler Park neighborhood to draft historic district overlay regulations that
- do not restrict location of solar panels
- do not restrict paint colors
- allow for age in place and handicap accessibility
- allow for green building features
The November 21 Vote is NOT to approve a final Local Historic District Designation but is a vote to proceed with the process of community engagement to draft regulations that we, Candler Park, would like for our neighborhood.
Another vote will take place AFTER Candler Park drafts its proposed Local Historic District regulations–see Phase 2 steps below.

After input during the Sept. 19 CPNO Member Meeting, the Historic Designation Committee has revised the DRAFT DOCUMENTS which explain what a Local Historic District, a sample of what it could look like in Candler Park, and a baseline map of the potential district.
The Candler Park Historic Designation Committee will present an outline at the October CPNO meeting and ask for a “Vote of Confidence” at the November CPNO meeting. An additional Community meeting will be hosted by the Historic Designation Committee on Thursday Oct. 20 for those that cannot make it to the CPNO Member Meeting on Monday and to answer any outstanding questions.
What is Phase 2?
estimate 6 months: December 2022 to May 2022
- Define potential Historic District boundaries
- Generation of draft regulations for potential Historic District
- Community meetings to collect input on draft regulations for potential Historic District
- Historic District nomination packet prepared (neighborhood history and existing conditions)
- Vote to Submit (CPNO) nomination packet to the City of Atlanta
