The Candler Park Golf Course has been closed since April for renovations. A statement posted on their website and front doors prior to the closure estimated the project would, “take approximately three months, depending on weather and other factors.”
One of the additions to the golf course will be the installation of Bermuda grass. This grass is shade-tolerant and resistant, meaning growth is not affected by the course lacking sunlight in some areas. Shade covers much of the golf course due to its tree-lined design. The grass is also drought-tolerant to improve water retention. These renovations are intended to improve playability of the course.
The golf course renovations are a part of a series of upgrades to Atlanta parks and greenspaces. The $34,000 renovations are being funded by the Golf Trust Fund. The grass addition is cost-efficient as the drought tolerance reduces watering requirements.
The reopening is scheduled for August 8th, 2025. An opening ceremony is planned. The renovations are expected to solve past grass problems and create a smoother playing experience for Candler Park golfers.
