No doubt you have noticed all the sewer work in Candler Park. We asked the Department of Watershed Management what’s happening on Candler St. between McClendon & Euclid Avenues. This is what their spokesperson told us:
This work is a component of the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management’s (DWM) Clean Water Atlanta (CWA) Program – Sewer Group (SG) 4 – Contract B. The purpose of CWA is to rehabilitate 8- to 24-inch small diameter sanitary sewers that were identified as needing repairs under the Sewer System Evaluation Survey (SSES) and required by the First Amended Consent Decree. The small diameter sewers will be rehabilitated utilizing such methods as:
• Cured-in-place pipe lining techniques (CIPP)
• Pipe bursting
• Horizontal directional drilling
• Conventional excavation
Work may also consist of the rehabilitation and pre-cleaning of manholes. Structural upgrades to the system are necessary to replace old and deteriorated sewers in order to maintain the reliability of the infrastructure. The construction on Candler St. began on April 18th and is expected to last approximately four weeks, weather permitting. Construction hours are Monday–Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
CWA exemplifies Mayor Dickens’ vision of making Atlanta a City Built for the Future. Learn more about CWA at https://cleanwateratlanta.h2o4atl.com/. For more information about other DWM projects, please visit www.atlantawatershed.org, or follow us on social media at ATLWatershed.
