Early discussions are in the works about developing the Edgewood side of the Edgewood/Candler Park MARTA station. The goal would be to replace an unused parking lot with potential living, office and retail options. Very few cities have a major transit station in the middle of a neighborhood with no business, living, etc. on top of it. Decatur would be an example of a station that actually developed around the transit stop.
Southface, a nonprofit that promotes sustainable and environmentally friendly development, has assembled a broad team to conduct a transit-oriented development charrette (collaborative session) on the MARTA station. The intent is to produce a best practice model transit-oriented development plan.
CPNO was contacted by John Maximuk, Program Director of the Livable Communities, to invite the Candler Park community to get involved with the charrette and provide input.
More information will be available soon, but for now, please hold the dates (April 13-16). If you have any questions, you can contact John Maximuk, Program Director of the Livable Communities Coalition, at 404.214.0081, ext. 21 or via email.
This will also be discussed at the March 21 CPNO membership meeting.
